The catfish season is picking up speed at Santa Ana River Lakes.  This is most likely due to the heavy double stockings of tilapia and catfish every week.  Anglers still targeting trout will have a nice surprise as the heaviest fish of the week was a rainbow trout.  Pedro Villa of Anaheim landed  a 13 pound trout using a mealworm-marshmallow combo at the East shore in the Big Lake.  Heaviest stringer of the week goes to Santiago Palacios of West Covina.  Santiago fished overnight and landed 15 catfish totaling 36 lbs 12 oz. using mackerel at “The Road”.  Santiago also fished two days earlier with his wife Adela Palacios and landed another 15 cats totaling 34 1/2 pounds at “The Road” again using fresh shrimp & mackerel. Greg Samarn & Dennis Johnson caught the heaviest catfish of the week at 10 1/2 pounds.  It took the two man team to land this big catfish using mackerel at the big pipe in Chris’ Pond. Huge 38 pound monster catfish caught at Corona Lake

The catfish bite has bite has been red hot at Corona Lake. Julio was using Whoopass Catfish Bait at J.D.’s point.  The person that catches the biggest catfish between Corona Lake and Santa Ana River Lakes by Sept. 1st, 2013, will get a private invitation for himself and 5 buddies, to go to Imperial Catfish Farm to catch and keep enough catfish to fill a HUGE 96 quart ice chest.
