LARGEST RAINBOW OF THE SEASON !!
20 POUND RAINBOW - CAUGHT 1/7/10
Caught, Friday - 12/11/09 at Santa Ana
River Lakes Chris Van Aagten of Ontario. 20.50 pounds - His Birthday was today and he and his Father, Vincent, have been coming to Santa Ana River Lakes on his Birthday for the last 7 years. This is the largest trout he has ever seen in his life and his previous personal best was around 9 pounds. Caught on a white Trout Trap near the Boat Dock area. Chris thought he would never get it in and fought it for just under 20 minutes. He said he was lucky there were not a lot of other fishermen around because of the rain to get tangled with, because the fish ran him all over the place. Fortunately his dad, with a lot of experience netting trout was ready, once this brute got tired. Chris now holds bragging rights over his Dad who's personal best was 17 pounds also caught at Santa Ana River Lakes. SEE THE INTERVIEW VIDEO
Alex Chavez of Buena Park, braved the weather on Friday, 12/11/09 and caught this 20 pound "Super Trout" just east of the Spillway. He said that he was not expecting how strong and steady this big trout took line from his reel. When he finally saw it roll on top of the water and how big it was, he said he got very nervous and doubted if he could get it to shore. He finally landed it clear over between Levits corner and the Pump House. He too was very lucky this was not a weekend when lots of other fishermen would have been there to tangle up with.
