SARL Catfish Kickoff – 5 BIG DAYS May 23-24-25-26-27
The big catfish opener is almost here and anglers are already pulling out nice limits of catfish at Santa Ana River Lakes. This is most likely due to the pre-opener stockings that have already started with both catfish & tilapia. Biggest fish of the week was landed by Keith Knutson of Anaheim. Keith hooked into a 8 1/4 lb. catfish using a mealworm & marshmallow combo fishing at the spillway. Heaviest stringer of the week goes to Lonny Haney of Hemet. Lonny landed 5 catfish totaling 18 1/2 pounds using mackerel in the catfish lake. Jason Hayes of Garden Grove caught 3 catfish totaling 12 1/2 pounds with his largest cat weighing in at 4 1/2 pounds. Jason was fishing by the big pipe in the big lake using night-crawlers. Santa Ana River Lakes is open seven-days-a-week. The Catfish Grand Opening is scheduled for the big Memorial Day Weekend on May 23-24-25-26, and there will be 24-Hour Fishing all four days!! Corona Lake official catfish season starts Memorial Weekend
Corona Lake hasn’t officially started their catfish season and limit after limit are already being reported at the tackle-shop. Corona Lake has already started stocking both catfish & tilapia in anticipation for their huge opener starting May 23rd. Susan Davis of Murrieta landed a 10 1/2 pound catfish with another 4 catfish for a total 27 1/2 pounds. Susan was using Whoopass catfish bait in a boat fishing all around the lake. Sam Stevenson of San Diego caught a combination of crappie & catfish totaling 19 pounds. Sam’s largest catfish was 4 /12 lbs. using night-crawlers from a boat. Rick Peterson of Westminster ended up with 5 catfish totaling 12 lbs. Rick’s biggest cat weighed in at 5 pounds, he was using night-crawlers back in the trees. Corona Lake is open seven-days-a-week.
