Catfish bite is RED HOT at SARL
Every week the catfish bite gets hotter & hotter at Santa Ana River Lakes. Big limits are being taken mostly at night time and especially the overnight sessions. Frank Moore of La Mirada fished/camped overnight & ended up with his 10 catfish limit totaling 28 1/2 pounds. Frank’s largest catfish weighed in at 4 pounds using mackerel in Chris’ Pond. Desmond & Damar Kemp of Salinas, fished the family overnight special and finished 1 catfish shy of their 15 fish limit. The Kemp’s 14 catfish totaled 25 pounds using Magic Bait liver & cheese flavor in the middle of the Catfish Lake. Donovan Miller and Scott Chance of Fullerton caught 9 catfish totaling 20 pounds using shrimp in the Catfish Lake. Justine Chevaliver & Alison Sharp of Brea landed 9 catfish totaling 21 pounds using shrimp in the Catfish Lake. Nash Helm of La Mirada caught 8 catfish totaling 16 pounds 8 ounces using shrimp in both the Catfish Lake & Big Lake. HEAVY limits & BIG catfish being caught at Corona Lake
The catfish bite has been phenomenal on both the night & overnight sessions. Fresh shrimp covered with the Eagle Claw gravy that is sold in the tackle-shop, seems to be the hot ticket. Heaviest stringer of the week was caught by a 4 man team, fishing the overnight 24 hour fishing session. Jose, Julian, Victor Aguilar, & Juan Corona of Santa Ana caught 40 catfish totaling 98 pounds. These 4 anglers were using fresh shrimp from a boat in the middle of the lake. Pat O’Donnell & Hayden Shirley of Palmdale caught 15 fish, a mixture of catfish & tilapia totaling 27 1/2 pounds. Their largest catfish weighed in at 17 1/2 pounds using sardines at the Dam. Leo Rivera of Riverside caught 4 catfish totaling 8 pounds 5 ounces using shrimp from a float tube, behind the tackle-shop. Nadine Rodriguez of Riverside caught a 4 pound catfish using mackerel from a boat, also behind the tackle-shop.
