Catfish are biting at Santa Ana River Lakes

The catfish action continues to pick up at Santa Ana River Lakes. SARL fish report 6-19-13The hottest bait seems to shrimp, followed by mackerel in a close second.  Anglers are taking advantage of the overnight fishing & camping specials that the lake offers every weekend.  Mike Chiu of Long Beach caught & released the largest catfish for the week, his fish weighed in at 11 pounds.  Mike was using mackerel from a kayak fishing in the Big Lake.  Donavan Miller of Fullerton decided to fish/camp overnight and caught 10 catfish totaling  29 1/2 pounds.  Donavan’s biggest catfish weighed 5 1/2 lbs. using shrimp at Casa Corner.  Jesse & Erica Phillips came for the family for overnight fishing & camping special.  The couple caught their 15 catfish limit  totaling 39 pounds using a mealworm/marshmallow combo in Chris’ Pond. Corona Lake catfish bite is red hot

Anglers at Corona Lake are “killing it” from a boat, according to Lake Guide Eddie at the tackle shop. Corona fish report 6-19-13The shore fisherman are also doing well, especially the anglers who decide to the fish overnight sessions.  Lionel Hawkins & David Rouse of Lakewood caught 4 catfish totaling 18 pounds with their largest catfish weighing in at 10 lbs. 4 oz.  The team was using mackerel off a Pontoon Boat near the boat dock. Jake, Sue & Mike Tobin of Temecula fished the overnight family special and ended up with 15 catfish totaling 30 pounds using worms from shore. Mike Perez of Corona caught 10 catfish totaling 26 1/2 pounds using shrimp at the dam.
